Why headlights turn yellow
Most modern headlight lenses are made of clear plastic, not glass. The plastic is light and tough, but it has a weak point.
From the factory, the lens has a thin protective coating. Over time, sunlight wears that coating away.
Once it is gone, the plastic starts to oxidise. The surface turns cloudy, then yellow. Dust and road grit add fine scratches that make the haze worse.
Delhi is hard on headlights. Strong summer sun, heat, dust and pollution all speed up the process, especially for vehicles parked outdoors.

Restoration or replacement?
Headlight restoration works on the outside surface of the lens. It is the right fix for surface yellowing, haze and fine scratches.
It cannot fix problems inside the lamp. You may need a repair or replacement if:
- The yellowing or fog is on the inside of the lens
- There is water or condensation inside the lamp
- The lens is cracked or broken
- The reflector behind the bulb is peeling or burnt
- The bulb itself is weak or failing
Not sure if the haze is inside or outside? Wipe the lens with a damp cloth. If it still looks cloudy and feels rough, the problem is usually on the outside.

Keeping headlights clear for longer
- Park in the shade or under cover where you can.
- Use a cover for a bike or scooter parked outdoors.
- Do not scrub dusty lenses with a dry cloth. Wet them first.
- Avoid harsh household chemicals on the lens.
