How Often Should You Wash Your Car in Delhi?

As a general guide, wash your car fully every one to two weeks in Delhi, with gentle dust removal in between. Wash more often in the monsoon and smog season, and remove bird droppings, sap and mud as soon as you see them.

Most Delhi cars need a full wash every one to two weeks, plus light cleaning in between if they are parked in the open. The right rhythm for your car depends on where it is parked, how much you drive and the season.

How often to wash your car in Delhi: a simple rule

Use this as a starting point, then adjust for your own car. These are practical guidelines, not fixed rules.

Your situationLight dust removalFull wash
Parked in the open, driven dailyEvery day or twoEvery week
Parked in the open, driven on weekendsTwice a weekEvery one to two weeks
Covered or basement parking, driven dailyTwice a weekEvery one to two weeks
Covered parking, rarely drivenWeeklyEvery two weeks or so
Monsoon, muddy roadsAs neededAfter every muddy drive

Light dust removal means a gentle clean with proper products and clean microfibre. It does not mean dry-dusting the car with an old cloth, which scratches the paint.

What decides how often your car needs washing

  • Where it is parked. A car in an open lane or under a tree gets dirty far faster than one in a basement.
  • How much you drive. Daily office runs on busy roads throw up more grime than a weekend drive.
  • The season. Delhi's summer dust, monsoon mud and winter smog each bring different dirt.
  • Paint colour. Dark cars show dust and water spots sooner, though light cars get just as dirty.
  • Nearby construction. Cement dust and debris settle quickly and are best removed early.

Season by season in Delhi

Summer (roughly April to June)

Hot, dry and dusty, with occasional dust storms. Dust settles daily, and heat bakes bird droppings onto the paint. Wash weekly, and clean droppings the same day. Wash in the morning or evening, not under the midday sun.

Monsoon (roughly July to September)

Rain does not wash a car. It leaves dirty spots as it dries, and muddy roads splash the lower panels and wheel arches. Wash after muddy drives, and pay attention to the underbody. Our monsoon car care guide covers this in detail.

After the monsoon and through winter

Smog and morning dew leave a grey, greasy film on glass and paint. Clean the glass often for visibility, and wash every week or so. See car care in Delhi's smog season.

Clean these straight away, whatever your schedule

  • Bird droppings. They can mark the clear coat, especially in heat. Soften with water, then lift off gently.
  • Tree sap. It hardens and becomes harder to remove the longer it sits.
  • Mud. Dried mud is abrasive and holds moisture against metal underneath.
  • Cement or paint splashes from building work nearby.

Our guide on removing bird droppings and tree sap explains the safest way to do it.

How often to clean the interior

  • Mats and floor: shake out or clean every week or two.
  • Dashboard and console: wipe weekly; dust builds up quickly in Delhi.
  • Glass inside: clean whenever you notice a haze, especially in winter.
  • Seats, carpets and roof lining: a deep clean a few times a year, or after spills or a damp monsoon.

Mobidoi's interior deep cleaning costs ₹1,499 (hatchback) / ₹1,599 (sedan & SUV) and covers seats, roof lining, carpets, door panels and stains.

Can you wash a car too often?

Frequent washing itself does not harm paint. Bad technique does. Dirty cloths, harsh household detergents and dry wiping cause most of the scratches people blame on washing.

Dish soap and household cleaners can strip wax and dry out rubber and plastic trims. Use a car shampoo or let a professional do it. A protective wax layer every few months also makes each wash easier.

Matching a Mobidoi plan to your schedule

If your car needs cleaning every few days, a monthly plan is simpler than booking each time.

  • Parked outside, driven daily: the alternate-days plan gives 15 cleans a month for ₹1,699 (hatchback) / ₹1,799 (sedan & SUV).
  • A proper weekly wash: 4 foam washes a month for ₹1,999 (hatchback) / ₹2,199 (sedan & SUV), including mats, glass, engine bay and underbody.
  • Occasional wash: a single Super Foam Wash at ₹299 (hatchback) / ₹399 (sedan & SUV).

Ask a question
Is it okay to wash my car every day?
A gentle daily clean is fine if the technique is right. Daily dry-dusting with a cloth is not, as it scratches the paint over time.
How often should I wash my car in the monsoon?
After every drive through mud or heavy splashes, or at least weekly. Rinse the wheel arches and underbody too.
Does rain clean my car?
No. Rainwater picks up dust and pollutants, and it leaves spots as it dries. A car often looks dirtier after rain.
How often should I deep clean the car interior?
A few times a year is a good general rhythm, plus after spills, a damp monsoon or before selling the car.
My car is in a basement. Do I still need regular washes?
Yes, but less often. Basement dust still settles, and the car picks up road grime every time you drive.
